MEDIA ADVISORY
CITY PRESSURES PORTA-POTTY RENTAL COMPANY TO END CONTRACT WITH HOMELESS ENCAMPMENT DURING GLOBAL PANDEMIC
On Wednesday, July 15th, the City of Philadelphia threatened Porta-Potty rental company NATIONAL CONSTRUCTION RENTALS to break its contract with the James Talib Dean homeless protest encampment or face fines and seizure of the dozen Porta-Pottys it had rented to the encampment. The company has notified Philadelphia Housing Action that it will be removing the units today ahead of the City’s eviction deadline.
CDC guidelines specifically recommend providing increased access to latrines for those experiencing homelessness during COVID-19
“If toilets or handwashing facilities are not available nearby, assist with providing access to portable latrines with handwashing facilities for encampments of more than 10 people. These facilities should be equipped with hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol).”
