A group of more than 30 Law professors from multiple institutions, including Temple, Drexel, and the University of Pennsylvania, drafted a letter to Philadelphia’s Mayor Kenney urging “against any action to break up the peaceful encampment”, noting that encampments are a “constitutionally-protected way to state grievances and to petition government, using the power of protest to make a collective public statement about the need for this city to properly address homelessness.”
The letter goes on to demand that “Safe, non-congregate housing
[…] be found for everyone in need in this city”.
Attached is the complete text of the letter.
If you represent an organization working towards housing justice, health justice, or any form of progressive action in Philadelphia or beyond, we urge you to add your endorsement of the encampment and /our-demands. Email philadelphiahousingaction@protonmail.com.
